It Is Happening Again

We’re opening the doors once again for another round of Aarhus strangest, freest filmfestival. This is a filmfestival for odd, eccentric, obscure low-budget genre movies. We want to show films other filmfestivals wouldn’t dare show. We don’t mind if a film is shot on an old Nokia camera with Singstar microphones for audio; As long as it is somehow unique, worthwhile and/or entertaining, we will give it the spotlight it deserves.

We here in Denmark produce and showcase a very narrow specific kind of cinema (the 4 K’s of danish cinema: “Kærlighed“, “Krig“, “Komedie“, “Kriminalitet“). We’re so caught up in making sure our public spending goes to *good* art that we end up with films that are in our opinion competent but too often safe, structured and soulless. We want to showcase films that are very much not that. There’s too strict of a divide between high-brow (oscar-bait social realistic historical drama #327) and low-brow (dumb comedy or crime fiction #498) in our media landscape, so we want to show films that exist everywhere on this spectrum, or plain break it entirely.

We also wanna show so-bad-it’s-good movies you made with your friends years ago.

The filmfestival will be completely free, and you need no kind of ticket or invitation to watch or send in films. We belive that just as lowbrow cinema is equally valuable to highbrow cinema, it is just as valuable to have your film seen by a casual everyday audience as it is having it seen by cinephiles or industry veterans. This is a filmfestival for the people. We want to eschew formality and aim for a light-hearted, cozy vibe where people can mingle, celebrate and party.

Open call: July 1. - Sept 1.

Want to show Aarhus your film? We’re accepting odd, eccentric, obscure or slightly-less obscure genre movies, both with high and super-low budgets. Your film should be less than 30 minutes long. It does not need to have been shot this year or in Denmark. Anyone can send in films, regardless of age, background or where they live (but ideally you should be able to come to the filmfestival!)

Also, if you have a really bad but funny movie you made many years ago, please do not hesitate to send it in! These kinds of movies are incredible in front of the right audience.

The first edition of the filmfestival was held November 10th last year, at UKH. It was a pretty big sucess, lots of people showed up, and it was great fun! At the same time though, we had no idea what we were doing. We also hadn’t really honed down the exact identity of the filmfestival yet, so the only goal was to accept as many films as possible. As a result, we had too many films, and the filmfestival was very long. The films were also a little all over the place, so this time, we’re specifically honing in on obscurity, eccentricity and genre-films.

We need your help!

Buster Bie - Founder

Tara Pejavonic - Cofounder

Right now, it’s mostly just me (Buster) and Tara making the filmfestival, and since we’re both working on this voluntarily and with other things going on in our lives, we’d really enjoy some help!

We could use help with:

•Graphic design

•Video production

•Putting up posters

Arts and crafts
(a red runner, name tags, various decoration and posters for the filmfestival)

•Graphic design

•Designing and creating trophies

•And lots of help on the actual day of the filmfestival!
(setting up, being in charge of projecter, helping cook, bartending, cleaning)

If you want to help with anything, be sure to reach us at busterbie@gmail.com or tara.pejavonic@gmail.com
